DomainKeys Identified Mail, or DKIM, is a system for checking the legitimacy of an email message by using an e-signature. When DomainKeys Identified Mail is activated for a given domain, a public cryptographic key is published to the global Domain Name System and a private one is kept on the email server. If a new email is sent, a signature is generated using the private key and when the message is delivered, the signature is ‘scanned’ by the incoming POP3/IMAP email server using the public key. In this way, the receiver can easily distinguish if the message is legitimate or if the sender’s email address has been spoofed. A mismatch will appear if the content of the email message has been altered in the meantime as well, so DKIM can also be used to make sure that the sent and the received email messages are identical and that nothing has been added or erased. This email validation system will boost your email security, since you can validate the genuineness of the important email messages that you receive and your colleagues can do likewise with the email messages that you send them. Depending on the given email service provider’s policies, a message that fails the test may be deleted or may reach the receiver’s mailbox with a warning alert.
DomainKeys Identified Mail in Hosting
When you purchase any of the Linux hosting service that we offer, the DomainKeys Identified Mail feature will be enabled by default for any domain name that you register under your website hosting account, so you won’t need to create any records or to enable anything manually. When a domain name is added in the Hosted Domains section of our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel using our MX and NS resource records (so that the email messages associated with this domain will be handled by our cloud hosting platform), a private key will be created instantaneously on our email servers and a TXT resource record with a public key will be sent to the global DNS system. DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Servers
All obligatory DKIM records will be set up automatically by our cloud platform when you add a domain name as hosted in a semi-dedicated server account, so in case you choose to buy a semi-dedicated hosting plan, you won’t have to configure anything to be able to take advantage of the email authentication system. The domain name should use our name servers in order for its DNS records to be managed by us and if this requirement is satisfied, a private cryptographic key will be generated on our email servers and a public key will be sent to the global Domain Name System by a special TXT record. All email addresses that you set up using the domain will be protected by DKIM, which will make it impossible for third parties to forge any address.
